Creative 30

Wednesday, 1st September, 2010 // Creative 30

As part of my internet “hiatus” I’ve decided to also jump start my creativity back to life. I’ve gone months without working on any personal projects and I can feel it taking a toll not only on my creativity but also my enjoyment of design.

So for every day of September I will create something and post it here. I know it will not be my best works but part of the idea is to get into the habit of shipping. Not only have I not created in months but I also have countless unfinished personal projects. See above for day ones effort.

Goodbye Internet

Wednesday, 1st September, 2010 // Internet

Well that’s not entirely accurate. Im just shutting out some of the internet for the month of September. This will include all my RSS feeds, all my favourite “inspiration” sites, all social media including Twitter, Flickr and Foursquare(got rid of Facebook a long time ago).

I will still use email due to client communication. Obviously I will also still use ftp and client sites for work. And so the 30 days of “non-internet begins.”

This is all an effort to regain my focus and increase my attention span, both things I think my constant aimless browsing has cost me. I am also starting a 30 day creative explosion -more on that later.

My blogging is also going to continue during September.

Internet: My Best Friend, My Enemy

Friday, 27th August, 2010 // General, Internet

I love the internet. I spend a lot of time online… Im beginning to think to much. I wake up, check my phone for emails, check twitter and my rss feeds. All this without even getting out of bed.

I get up and go straight to my computer, repeat. This could be a long blog post about my day’s internet activity, but it’s basically *repeat* all day. The problem is I don’t seem to get as much done as I use to. Things like work, design, chores and even conversation… nor do I want to, and I like my work.  I’ve even noticed a slight forgetfulness on my part -think it has anything to do with constantly being connected? I know I can attribute my rapidly degrading attention span to it.

So I have decided to do something about it. Alas my work is directly related to the internet, so some thought is needed. I”l get back to you.
